A Jubilee Senator has denied claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta demoted him to kill his 2022 presidential ambitions.

Tharaka-Nithi Senator, Kithure Kindiki, dismissed reports indicating that President Uhuru dropped him from the Senate Majority Leader position.

"I am the one who told the President to give me a less-engaging position because I want to play a critical role in national politics. I am a player in a team called Jubilee where Mr Kenyatta is the captain, his deputy William Ruto the assistant. The rest are utility players who can play any role provided that we win," he reiterated.

According to Prof Kindiki, he urged the President to give him a different role so that he could traverse the country easily to get ready for the 2022 showdown.

“The position of Senate Majority Leader has good exposure but it compels one to always remain in the assembly to defend government agendas,” Kindiki noted.

The vocal Senator also urged residents to avail themselves in large numbers on October 17 for the repeat presidential election, to ensure that Uhuru trounces the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga.

Kindiki exuded confidence that with Jubilee assured of one million votes from the Ameru region, the Head of State will emerge victorious.

He was speaking at a Sunday service in Marimanti Methodist Church in Tharaka constituency.
