NAIROBI, KENYA: Nairobi County on Monday collected Sh38.2 million after cash office raid by Governor Sonko and top politicians from Jubilee and ODM.

On his Facebook page, the governor said part of the operation was to instruct tax payers to be paying directly to the bank in case of system failure

“From an average Sh7 million that used to be declared a week ago, the sting operation I led resulted in a sustained increase in daily collections. First from the day we raided the cash office and found over Sh7m unbanked the revenue went up to 14m,” said Sonko.

“I am happy to report to you that on Monday after ajoint raid by top Jubilee and ODM county leaders, we managed to collect Sh38.2million, this only from the 14 revenue streams that have been digitized, out of over 136 revenue streams,” he said.

Sonko and his team spent several hours at the cash office instructing tax payers to be paying directly to the bank in case of system failure.

According to the governor, over 2000 vehicles on Monday parked but owners failed to pay requisite fees leading to revenue loss.

“I am warning such motorists to comply with the county laws by paying for parking through the electronic eJijiPAY service. Failure to comply will lead to impounding of non-compliant vehicles.”

During swearing in ceremony, Sonko promised to transform Nairobi city and return it to its former glory as the 'City in the Sun', and make it one of the most beautiful cities in Africa.

"I will dismantle water cartels, fight land grabbers, clean the city and address the ease of doing business," was the promise by new Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

"I have never made a promise that I never kept, and this day I wish to give you my personal assurance. Nairobi will never be the same again from today. I shall work around the clock to guarantee efficient and timely services for all our residents," he said.
