President Uhuru: How I painted Kenya red and won the big race

President Uhuru Kenyatta has used the Kenyan map to demonstrate to the Supreme Court that he was not only popularly elected but also widely chosen by the electorate.

In his affidavit, President Kenyatta, whose victory is being contested by the Opposition, NASA, says he did not only beat his main rival Raila Odinga by 1,401,286 votes, he also won in 26 counties while Raila took the remaining 21.

The President has developed five maps to illustrate the areas he won in red -- the dominant of Jubilee colours -- while those of his rival are in blue.

The first of the maps illustrates results of the presidential election, where he took 26 counties, while the other four show governors’ contest (33 seats), senators (25), woman representatives (25) and 140 members of the National Assembly.

Remarkable win

The Jubilee Party also won the highest number of MCA seats with 582 against NASA’s 535 -- ODM (338), Wiper (87), Ford Kenya (51), ANC (47) and Chama Cha Mashinani (12).

During the campaign period, Kenyatta says he and his deputy William Ruto addressed more than 600 across Kenya.

“Our strategy succeeded as demonstrated by the electoral results in all the six elections as depicted by the various graphs shown,” the affidavit reads in part, referring to the maps.

According to the President, the results of all six elections demonstrates that his Jubilee manifesto on national healing, reconciliation, inclusiveness and prosperity for all Kenyans resonated exceedingly well with the electorate.

“Jubilee’s victory in the General Election is remarkable, demonstrable and cannot be assailed in any democratic society. JP as a party also won a majority of positions in all the other five elections conducted the same day,” the affidavit reads in part.

Despite such clear poll victory, Kenyatta says Raila has continuously disparaged Jubilee’s win and coined such demeaning remarks as “computer generated leaders”.

“The difference between the votes cast in my favour and those cast in favour of the first petitioner is 1,401,286. Such a margin is significant and emphatically demonstrates the sovereign will of the people of Kenya,” the President says.

He adds; “The Deputy President and I are not computer generated leaders (“vifaranga vya computer”). The electoral victory was effected by the Kenyan voters.”

According to the President-elect, the electoral victory was a consequent to the great efforts made to transform the country and the inclusive government that he has presided over.

Free and fair

He says the presidential election was conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law and international practice.

“I deny that I contravened the Rule of law and the Principles of the Conduct of a free and fair election through the use of intimidation, coercion of public officers and improper influence of voters as pleaded in paragraph 32 of the petition or at all. The allegations are devoid of any evidentiary or legal basis,” he adds.
