NYERI, KENYA: The government has threatened to terminate a major the contract for water project in Tetu after residents complained that it had taken too long to begin.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said that the government would cancel and award the 500million Kaigonji-Aguthi-Gaaki water project tender to another contractor due to the prolonged delays.

The project which was scheduled for completion last year is still in initial stages.

Once complete, it will provide residents living in Mathira and Tetu Constituencies with tap water for irrigation and domestic use.

Last year, Tetu residents protested over the delays wondering the slow pace yet the water source was River Gura which is within the constituencies.

However, despite the pipes being delivered and the dispute settled, the project is still in its initial stages.

"If the engineer does not want to do the work then we will find someone who does," said The President.

At the same venue, Uhuru said his government would create a new division in Tetu Sub County to ease access of government services.
