The much-anticipated presidential debate is expected to take place today at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Karen, Nairobi.

The first phase of the debate is scheduled to begin at 5.30 pm and will bring together Ekuru Aukot (Thirdway Alliance), Abduba Dida (Alliance for Real Change) and Cyrus Jirongo (United Democratic Party).

Others are independents former minister Joseph Nyaga, Michael Wainaina and Japheth Kaluyu.

At 8pm, President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to face-off with his rival, NASA's Raila Odinga.

Uhuru has indicated he will not take part in the debate, accusing the organisers - media owners association - of not involving Jubilee in the planning of the debate. He also accused them of colluding with NASA and letting NASA-friendly moderators to humiliate him during the show.

Uhuru has said he will instead be out campaigning and would rather hold face to face meetings with the people than debate on live television. The National Super Alliance (NASA) has however said it is ready to take part in the debate to specifically take on Uhuru on corruption and other issues affecting the country.

They were however hesitant to confirm if Raila will attend. Asked about the matter, Moses Wetang'ula did not confirm or deny.

"We have a position on the debate and we will cross the bridge when we get there," Wetang'ula said.
