Jubilee Party failed to conduct repeat nominations for the Nyali parliamentary seat as ordered by an appellate court.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Nairobi on Friday ordered Jubilee Party to conduct fresh nominations within 48 hours.

This followed an appeal filed by Yassir Noor after the party declared Ashraf Bayusuf as winner of the shambolic primaries.

Mr Noor's lawyer Yusuf Abubakar said the repeat poll did not materialise after all aspirants were summoned to Jubilee Party headquarters.

In their ruling on Friday, justices Roselyn Nambuye, Gatembu Kairu and Agnes Murgor ordered Jubilee Party to conduct fresh nominations to determine its candidate for next month's election.

They said their decision had taken into consideration the interest of party members and the nomination rules.

"The nomination certificate issued by the first respondent (Jubilee Party) arising out of the nomination exercise of April 26 be and is hereby nullified," the judges ruled.

Meanwhile, the Coast region's longest-serving MP has secured crucial endorsement of his community elders to seek a fifth term.

Gonzi Rai was last week endorsed by 73 Duruma community Kaya elders.

The elders were led by Duruma Kaya chairman Mzee Mwanamumwenga Chigamba.
