Jijazie FC from Kamkunji and Makongeni Youth from Makadara have made it to the Nairobi Governor’s Cup football final in the Eastern Zone contest.

Jijazie FC defeated Korogocho Youth from Baba Dogo 2-1 in the zonal semis at City Stadium on Monday.

Goals from James Okello and Fredrick Ochieng were enough to guide Jijazie to victory. Eric Kapaito scored Korogocho’s consolation goal.

The other semi at the same venue saw Makongeni Youth sail to the final after a 2-1 victory over Mwiki-based Terror Squad.

Early goals from Kennedy Otieno and Michael Onyonga did the trick for Makongeni.

Terror Squad were resurgent in the second half, scoring through Peter Kagotho, but that was not enough to salvage their situation as Makongeni walked away with the victory.

Women’s matches

Meanwhile in the women’s matches, Kariobangi Sports Ladies from Embakasi North and St Ann’s Eaglets have booked a date in the zone’s final.

St Ann’s defeated Girls Unlimited from Kasarani 2-1 in the semis, while Kariobangi Sports won 4-1 on post-match penalties against Golden Angels from Kamkunji. Their match ended 1-1 after normal time.

The winner from this zone will face champions from the Western Zone contest in the grand final and the overall winner will pocket Sh1.5 million. The losing finalists will take home Sh1 million.

The losers from both zones will battle for a third-place play-off and the winner will pocket Sh500,000.

A select side will be formed at the end of the tournament constituting the Nairobi County Football Team. At the same time, the best players will be rewarded with scholarships.

The aim of the tournament, which is sponsored by the Nairobi Liquor and Licensing Board, is to keep youths away from drugs. [Erick Ochieng]
