At least 14 bodies recovered after a dhow capsized in the Indian Ocean on Tuesday enroute to Lamu.

The dhow was ferrying about 90 passengers from Ndau Islands to Lamu before it overturned at Mkanda Channel due to high tides.

Lamu West Deputy county commissioner Luis Rono says the boat was also carrying bags of cement and sand.

16 people have been rescued by divers and maritime officers.

Rescue operations are still ongoing.
