Governor Joho's involvement in the SGR launch hangs in the balance

It is yet to be clear on whether Mombasa governor Hassan Joho will be involved in the launch of the cargo train that will have fifty wagons to Nairobi terminus awaiting the maiden passenger train journey on the standard gauge railway aboard President Uhuru Kenyatta tomorrow.

Government spokesman Erick Kiraithe has said he is not sure whether the governor had been invited to the launch but discouraged the governor from demanding to be included.

Mr Kiraithe added the event was presidential and has organizers who understand protocol saying it would be bad for governor to use the media to seek being involved.

He said it is a great achievement that President Kenyatta will be remembered for over a long time and that Governor Joho just like every citizen has the right to celebrate the its initiation.

“All mischief notwithstanding, the government will want all Kenyans to feel this victory and I think the president will be remembered for many years as a result of this project,” he said.

Governor Joho has in the resent past been in bad blood with the ruling party and the president as he had told off the head of state at in public as he launched projects in the county.

Governor Joho while addressing a rally in Nairobi over the weekend declared that he will work hard throughout the campaign period and on the elections to ensure that the opposition clinched victory in August declaring himself the president’s enemy.

On several occasions Joho has labeled the standard gauge railway project as Jubilee government's plan to 'kill' the coastal Kenya economy.

Joho has however insisted that he will attend the event as the host governor, he said this in Siaya County yesterday.
