ODM will launch a series of political rallies in Coast's six counties starting Thursday in an effort to counter Jubilee's recent forays into the region.

Governors Hassan Ali Joho of Mombasa, Taita Taveta's John Mruttu and Amason Kingi of Kilifi will spearhead the rallies that start tomorrow in Taita Taveta.

A statement from Mr Mruttu's office indicated Turkana Governor Joseph Nanok would also attend the rallies.

The three governors have weathered a sustained assault from Jubilee in recent days. On Saturday, Senator Dan Mwazo defected to Jubilee from ODM and will now contest Mruttu's seat.

Mruttu said he was humiliated during President Uhuru Kenyatta's recent tour of his county, as he was not allowed to speak at any of the functions, despite accompanying him.

Mruttu warned he might not attend any of Uhuru's future functions. "I was invited to accompany the President while on tour of the region but was not even given a chance to greet people. I will reconsider my future engagement with the President," warned Mruttu in a press conference.

Mr Kingi has not attended any of Uhuru's functions in Kilifi this year. Uhuru travelled to Kilifi with Kingi's opponents, including Gideon Mung'aro, who is eyeing the gubernatorial seat.

Kingi accuses Uhuru of undermining devolution and harassing opponents.
