Kenya Premier League(KPL): Newly-promoted Nzoia Sugar stun Tusker FC

We have made strides in our democratic space as a country and these are enshrined in the Constitution; freedom of speech and association should be enjoyed by every citizen.

The order to have Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho barred from attending the launch of the Mtongwe Ferry was in bad faith and it has evoked memories of the former ruling party, Kanu, and its retrogressive tactics of supressing anyone who holds contrary opinions.

This shows how perceived 'dissidents' are publicly humiliated whenever someone voices their discontent with the ruling regime.

Mr Joho and the President have exchanged words whenever the latter visits Coast region to 'launch development projects', simply because Joho is not pleased with the Jubilee government.

However, the Mombasa governor is an elected leader with a constitutional mandate from his electorate and thus he should be accorded the respect he deserves as the office holder and as a citizen.

The launching of ferry services lies squarely in his county. The tactics being deployed will only serve to divide the country.
