The newly upgraded Isiolo International Airport is now ready for operations. The airport, located in Isiolo, one of the fastest growing towns in Kenya serves as a gateway to regional trade with neighbouring Ethiopia and Southern Sudan countries.
Its upgrade will serve as an important link to the new transport corridor, which the Government is developing under the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport development project.
It sits on an 800-acre land and consists of a modern passenger terminal that can handle more than 125,000 passengers annually, including parking facilities with a capacity to accommodate more than 200 cars.
Other facilities in the upgraded airport include patrol roads, a modern administration block, control and watch towers, a meteorological centre, a fire station and a perimeter fence to ensure security of passengers and aircraft. —James Wanzala
