Former Football Kenya Federation president Sam Nyamweya says he is concerned that Kenya could lose the right to stage next year’s African Nations Championship for lack of preparedness.

Nyamweya, heavily credited for bringing the finals to Nairobi before he left office in 2016, now wants the government to take up its role this is a State project, which FKF cannot handle on their own.

“I fought very hard to have us get the rights, but I’m afraid things are not going well,” Nyamweya told The Standard, adding that the Nick Mwendwa-led FKF must unite the football fraternity.

He added: “The appointment of the Local Organising Committee by the minister is welcome, but it needs to be inclusive so we must evaluate how that is captured in the gazetted list.”

He wants Government to expedite the release of funds to ensure that everything runs smoothly because there is very little time left and CAF might be forced to move tournament.
