Why Cotu's top brass skipped Muchai's funeral

The late Kabete MP George Muchai

A Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) board member has said they skipped the funeral of the slain Kabete MP George Muchai to avoid being heckled.

Francis Wangara said they received intelligence reports indicating they would be heckled at the funeral or barred altogether from speaking at the function.

Speaking to the media in Kisumu, Mr Wangara said the organisation had earlier been barred from taking part in the former unionist's burial preparations.

"This was a clear indication that we were not welcome at the funeral. We kept away since we did not want to cause a commotion at the funeral," said Wangara.

He hit out at Cabinet Secretary for Labour Kazungu Kambi for insinuating that the union had a hand in Muchai's killing. "We now want Kambi to tell the public what he knows about Cotu's involvement in the death," he said.
