ODM denies asking for Sh1 million from governors for Homa Bay senate race

NAIROBI, KENYA: Raila’s party ODM on Friday dismissed reports in a local newspaper claiming that CORD principals (Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka) had directed counties affiliated to the coalition to contribute Sh1million towards the Homa Bay Senatorial seat by-election.
The party said the report is not only misleading but malicious and aimed at portraying the ODM and CORD in bad light.
“In view of this, the ODM would like to clarify that during a CORD PG meeting held at Orange House and which was chaired by Minority Whip in the Senate Johnston Muthama suggested that all the Governors affiliated to the coalition contribute Sh 500,000 per County  towards the campaigns in Homa Bay County and Kajiado Central,” says Philip Etale ODM Director of Communications .
“This amount will not come from the Counties coffers but from the Governor  (individually) and Members of County Assemblies under their jurisdiction. Just like Members of Parliament  (Senate and National Assembly) have been tasked to make personal contribution towards the two by-elections, so are the Governors and MCAs,” he said
Meanwhile, the fundraiser held last night at Panafric Hotel to aid the Homa Bay Senatorial seat by-election campaign realised Sh 10 Million.
