Opposition warned over threat of mass action

Three MPs from Central region have warned the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) against politicising security issues through their threat to call for mass action if the court does not rule in their favour.

Kanini Kega (Kieni), Priscillah Nyokabi (Nyeri) and Sarah Lekorere (URP, nominated) said the Opposition's warning was illegal and went against the confidence Kenyans had in the Judiciary.

CORD leaders have moved to court seeking the nullification of the contentious Security Amendment Act 2014, which was passed into law last Thursday in a chaotic debate that saw legislators engage in fist fights in Parliament.

Mr Kega said it was against the spirit of Kenyans for the Opposition to call for a protest when they were faced with terrorism.

"Let Raila Odinga and his team respect Kenyans' wishes. Let him deal with the internal wrangles threatening to tear his party apart," he said.
