Traders in Chuka whose buildings are on the road reserves have been requested to move.

This is after the long-anticipated tarmac of the century-old town kicked off.

Speaking at Chuka town, MP for Chuka-Igambang'ombe constituency Muthomi Njuki said the contractors will have to adhere to the original survey done on the town.

“We have seen people being bribed before by owners of the plots on road reserves sabotaging the tarmac of the town for many years. This will not happen again,” he said.

Residents had complained that after tarmacking commenced no buildings are going down as expected. The MP has said his office has consulted with the relevant authorities to acquire the original map for the town.

Njuki said it is time the town got a new face for development in trade, asking residents to raise alarm over any illegal acquisition of public land by individuals.

 Demolition coming

“The original map that shows where the road went through is what will be used in constructing the road. Anyone with buildings on public reserve should be prepared for worst,” he said.

“Residents keep complaining over injustices but do not take action against these people yet they know them,” he added.

The MP said people need to be courageous in defending what is theirs since they are the ones who are affected.
