Kenya: Kieni MP Kanini Kega plans to introduce a censure motion in Parliament against Lands, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.

The MP affiliated to the Jubilee government says Mrs Ngilu is acting against the Constitution on appointments in her ministry, and threatens to move a motion to have her sacked.

Mr Kega’s sentiments come a few days after the CS wrote to the Public Service Commission, seeking to regularise some of her appointments rejected by Parliament last year.

In the letter dated January 10, Ngilu wants the officers appointed as part of her proposed new staff. She further wants 16 senior officers, including Lands Secretary Zablon Mabea out of the ministry.

Kega said the minister flouted the law in the appointments, and therefore, had no business persuading the PSC to endorse the appointment, which she knew were unconstitutional.

“This time people will be surprised because the motion to throw out the Cabinet secretary will come from the ruling coalition and not the opposition as some would expect,” he said.

The MP spoke to journalists after commissioning a road that has been earmarked for upgrading in his constituency.

He said the ministry had hardly delivered due to Ngilu’s “poor leadership”.
