Medical training college to be set up in county

Kirinyaga County: Kirinyaga County will soon have a medical training college which will be established on the periphery of the Kerugoya District Hospital.

Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari said the Health cabinet secretary has already authorised the construction.

The MP said since independence, there has never been a medical college in the county and thanked the government for the new development.  Gitari said construction of the college would commence this year after the architectural work is completed.

He also said plans were under way to upgrade the hospital to Level Five status in order to offer quality medical services to the residents. A private developer who had allegedly encroached on hospital land meant for the college has since been ordered off the site.

A week ago, the county government sent its agents to order the developer off the premises after a Gazette notice revoked allocation.

Governor Joseph Ndathi had declared war on all grabbed public land in the county.

“I will ensure that all public land that has been grabbed is repossessed,” he had said.
