Woman shot in the head after 'beeping horn at driver in road rage incident'

US: A woman was shot in the head after reportedly beeping her horn at a fellow driver.

Kay Hafford, 28, managed to call the emergency services after the shooting on a Texan highway despite drifting "in and out of consciousness."

She is now in a critical condition at a local hospital after having bullet fragments removed from her brain.

Hafford joined the Interstate 45 North Freeway in Houston at around 7am on Friday when she beeped her horn at another vehicle, the driver of which allegedly then began taunting her.

The suspect is then said to have drawn up alongside her car and fired a shot through the passenger window before speeding away.

It reportedly took authorities around 15 minutes to track down the victim after she was able to give her husband's name and phone number.

Police Assistant Chief Deputy Mark Herman said: "The victim was coherent enough to steer her vehicle off Interstate 45 Freeway on to Airtex, the exit ramp where she stopped.

"She called 911. She was incoherent because she was in and out of consciousness."

Police are hunting for a man who was driving a white SUV and wearing a blue baseball cap in connection with the shooting.
