A little known private academy in Nakuru County once again posted exemplary Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations (KCPE) results.

Sun and Shield Academy scored a mean grade of 389.07 marks to beat other academic giants in the county, with its leading light Justin Tuitoek scoring 422 marks.

The school, established in 2007 and which enrolled KCPE candidates for the fifth time this year, had eight candidates scoring 400 and marks above. Isaiah Kangogo, the institution’s headteacher described the achievement as the best in the school’s short history.

Although it missed its target of a mean grade of 395 marks, Kangogo said the results were a great achievement that put the school among the country’s best.

“The achievement is as a result of dedication and focus. Pupils identified to be weak academically are not neglected but assigned specific teachers to help them improve,’’ the headteacher said.

In last year’s national examinations, 14 candidates scored more than 400 marks, posting a mean score of 384.66.

Dr Gladys Kiptiony, the institution’s director, attributed this year’s exemplary performance to professionalism and discipline from all involved.

“We are very delighted with the results. We desire to do better every year. Our happiness is seeing parents get value for the school fees they pay,’’ she said.

The secret to a good performance, she said, lies in discipline, dedication, firmness and fairness.

The school enlisted the services of a chaplain to nurture its pupils.

Its choir has consistently reached the national level of the music festival for several years.

The private school is located along the Nakuru-Eldama Ravine road, about 20km from Nakuru town.
