Uhuru agreed to back mudavadi as Jubilee flag bearer

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta signed a document in which he agreed to back Musalia Mudavadi as Jubilee Alliance presidential candidate.

It emerged on Tuesday that the two signed the agreement on December 4 and Uhuru tabled the document before MPs during a meeting held at Panafric Hotel on Monday evening and said he was ready to abide by his commitment to support Mudavadi.

However, the move did not go well with the MPs who vowed to overturn it.

Currently, The National Alliance (TNA) delegates are meeting at Multi Media University in Nairobi in a bid to overturn Uhuru’s decision.

TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo said the party does not recognise the agreement.

The Jubilee coalition on Monday once again called off their much-anticipated presidential nominations scheduled for Tuesday as a rift between coalition partners deepened.

Jubilee took the decision after a row on the criteria of holding the nominations intensified. This is after Mudavadi, a key pillar in the alliance boycotted a much- publicised joint rally held in Kitui.

In spite of persuasion from his counterparts Uhuru and Eldoret North MP William Ruto, Mudavadi stood his ground that he won’t attend the rally unless they strike a deal. At Kitui, no MP who is allied to the DPM was present.

A four-hour meeting held in Ruto’s Karen home earlier Monday morning failed to bear fruits, with Mudavadi and his allies demanding that Uhuru honours his commitment to step down for him.

Mudavadi had insisted that unless an announcement is made publicly that the process of nominating the Jubilee candidate will be done through consensus, he would not attend another joint rally.
