Is the Institution of the Church to be blamed for increased marital violence?

A local daily on Tuesday headlined the story of a woman who had been brutally battered and mutilated by her husband. The harrowing images of the helpless lady sent chills down my spine. They also filled me with sadness only I can describe. As I read the story, one of my most disgusting moments, was when I read that in the midst of all this her pastor told her to stay on and fight for her marriage.

As I continue this writing I would like to state that I do not in any way dispute the power of a prayer offered up in faith. I have been and still I’m a firm believer in prayer.
