Deputy President William Ruto shocked Busia residents when he claimed that Amos Wako, the Busia senator is his village headman (liguru) in Nairobi.
“Najua huyu mtoto wenu Wako, yeye ndio liguru wa huko pahali tunaishi Nairobi (Your son Wako is the headman in our estate in Nairobi),” said Ruto to thunderous laughter from those in attendance.
Wako who was the head of delegation in welcoming VIP speakers at the function had earlier jokingly said that he is senior to Ruto in their Nairobi ‘village.’
“I welcome Ruto to address you, he is my friend and I am his headman in Nairobi,” to which deputy William Ruto replied, “Ni kweli, kuku ya jirani ikiingia kwa shamba ya mwingine ni Wako anasuluhisha kabla ya Chief kuingilia kati (When a neighbour’s hen trespasses into another’s farm, it is Wako who handles the matter before the Chief comes in).”
Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong, in whose locality falls Teso North, where the DP was inspecting a series of development projects, arrived late just minutes before DP Ruto spoke, wearing a T-Shirt, a pair of dark Jeans, and blue sports shoes.
“My people, including the DP, I apologise for coming late. It is not my wish. I had four funerals to attend across Busia County,” he explained.
