Man denies sending nude photos to Bishop Wahome's church members

Jomo Muigai alias Jomo Kenyatta was held over  nude photographs he is alleged to have sent

David Jomo Muigai, a renowned city businessman spent two nights at Lang’ata Police Station, The Nairobian can now reveal.

Jomo was held over abusive text messages and nude photographs he is alleged to have sent via WhatsApp to a WhatsApp group linked to Helicopter of Christ Ministries.

In a statement to police, Bishop Thomas Wahome of Helicopter of Christ Church claims he received complaints from some group members just days after forming three groups with around 300 members. Wahome says he exited the group upon realising the kind of activities that were going on.

According to the statement, “Wahome made several attempts to return to the group in order to remove other members but failed after an unknown admin turned down his request, prompting him to involve the police.”

Investigations reportedly linked the ‘fake admin’ to Muigai’s phone number, but it remains unclear how he was added to the group.

Muigai was set to appear in court to face charges of sending abusive texts on July 29, having been arrested the previous day and booked under OB41/28/7/2015.

The court however claims they received a directive to return the suspect back to the station for further investigations.

“The said complainant’s phone has not been subjected to forensic examination to rule out interference regarding the WhatsApp application. It should be pointed out that it is extremely difficult to obtain printout of the same,” read the letter dated July 29 in part.

The letter seen by The Nairobian further questions how another admin could have posted dirty messages and photos, yet the complainant claims to have been the sole administrator.

“I have never sent messages to any of the church members. In fact, I have never met Bishop Wahome,” said Muigai who claims that he joined the social platform more than six months ago.

Some of the massages, not necessarily by Muigai, reportedly sent via the group dubbed Helicopter of Ministries, demanded that the recipients pay as much as Sh10,000 for the ‘preacher’ to check if their names exist in the book of life.
