Water CS Wamalwa woos Western governors

Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has said his appointment is a great honour to Western region and called on governors to work with the Jubilee administration to foster development in the region.

During his homecoming party on Saturday, Eugene made a grand entry to Kitale using two helicopters to a heroic reception by local leaders and jubilant residents.

He asked governors Moses Akaranga (Vihiga), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and Patrick Khaemba (Trans-Nzoia) to agree to work with the national government so that people from the region benefit from development.

"My appointment is a great honour to the people of Western region and I urge governors from the region to reciprocate by working with the national government to bring development to the people," Eugene said.

At hand to welcome Eugene were Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, MPs Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), David Lazaro (Saboti), Janet Nangabo (Women Rep), several Trans-Nzoia County government officials and hundreds of residents.

The CS made stopovers along the highway to address locals who had lined up to wait for him.

Business in Kitale town come to a standstill as the convoy of vehicles with supporters snaked through the streets amid cheering from residents.

Eugene was accompanied by nominated TNA MP Johnson Sakaja, former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Kirwa and New Ford Kenya officials.

While thanking the President and his deputy for appointing him to serve in the Cabinet, the CS assured Kenyans he is up to the task. "I am up to the task entrusted on me by the President and want to assure Kenyans that nobody will go thirsty," said Eugene.

The CS pledged to serve Kenyans irrespective of their region and party affiliation. He also called on Kenyans to support and have confidence with the Jubilee administration, which he said is committed to deliver pledges it had made during 2013 campaigns. The CS praised the Jubilee leadership on its development record. Eugene said his ministry will strive to ensure Kenyans access clean water and enhance irrigation farming to boost food production.

"Water is critical for development and I will strive to ensure our mothers are untied from walking long distances to fetch water," he said.
