Two terror suspects arrested as they attempted to recruit Kenyan ladies to join Al Shabaab

Migori, Kenya: Two terror suspects were Saturday arrested at the Isibania border in Migori County as they allegedly attempted to recruit Kenyan ladies to join Al Shabaab terror group.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery said the two suspects were of Tanzanian origin and will be appearing in court soon.

"This illustrates the desperate efforts these criminals are making from all corners of our country, in their effort to harm us. Let me point out that we are increasingly focusing on their points of operations to exterminate them," said Nkaissery.

Addressing Press in his office on the state of security in the country, the CS said Kenya must not lose focus of unfortunate happenings in Somalia, Tunisia, France, Syria and Kuwait, where dozens of innocent people lost their lives in the hands of terrorist.

He said: "We are gradually dismantling them and soon we will purge these criminals from our midst. As we move deeper into the Holy Month of Ramadhan, we must not lose focus on what happened recently in Somalia, Tunisia, France, Syria and Kuwait. Such acts of terrorism remind us, the urgency to put into action decisions reached at the just-ending regional conference on countering violent extremism.

Kenya condemns these acts and stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters all over the world in the fight against terrorism and in propagating for a safer environment free of terror."

Consequently, he said all security agencies are and will remain vigilant throughout the period of Ramadhan and beyond.

At the same time, he called upon all citizens to be vigilant and continue collaborating with the police and other security agencies, by providing information about the activities of terror gangs.

He noted that valuable information provided by members of the public to the security agencies helped foil potential attacks and also led to the arrest of suspects, who are currently in police custody.

Among those arrested, he added, were 48 aliens, who were nabbed in Garissa, Mandera and Wajir Counties.

He further pointed out that police, acting on information from the public, arrested an individual, whose picture appeared in the newspapers following the attempted attack at Baure KDF Camp in Lamu.
