Traders protest eviction ahead of beatification

More than 800 traders are protesting harassment by the county government after they were issued with a notice to demolish their structures and pave way for the clean-up of the town ahead of the beatification of Sister Irene ‘Nyaatha’ Stefani.

Thursday, the traders closed down their business and staged peaceful demonstrations at the Nyeri Whispers Park. The traders sent a delegation to present their grievances to Governor Nderitu Gachagua and warned that they would continue with the demos across the entire county if the notice is not withdrawn.

County Lands and Infrastructure Executive John Maina however said the county government was going to hold consultations with the traders to find a solution.
