Police look for thugs who shot five pupils

A manhunt has been launched for a gang that has been operating in parts of Nairobi after they were involved in a shootout that left one of them dead and five children wounded.

The gang of about 10 men is believed to be armed and has been operating in Dandora, Kariobangi and Kiambiu and are even said to be taunting police officers looking for them. "They have been mocking police going after them and at times making calls to say they are in charge," said a senior officer in the area.

The Tuesday incident in Dandora involved rival gangs and police linked it to the killing of a member of one of the gangs in Kiambiu on Monday.

Buruburu OCPD Charles Kerich identified the deceased as Martin Njogu while the locals know him as Marto, adding that police were combing the area for the two gunmen who escaped after the shooting.

Kerich said the injured children were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital after the incident. The incident happened near Juhudi Academy and the children were on their way home. And on Tuesday night, three suspected thugs were shot dead in two failed robbery attempts in the same estate.
