Gunman shoots, injures Korogocho Ward MCA Maxwell Ochar in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: A Member of Nairobi County Assembly was Wednesday morning shot and wounded by a gunman on a motorbike in Ruaraka area, Nairobi.

Korogocho Ward MCA Maxwell Ochar was shot in the shoulder by a lone gunman as he boarded his car at about 6 am.

According to police, the MCA was boarding his car within Riverside Estate in the area when the gunman, who seemed to have been waiting, struck.

Nairobi County police boss Benson Kibue said the gunman rode off from the scene soon after the incident.

“The motive of the shooting is yet to be established but officers on the ground are pursuing the attacker,” said Kibue.

Police, who visited the scene, collected a spent cartridge and said the gunman shot once shattering the driver’s windowpane.

Other witnesses said the gunman aimed at Ochar after he had taken the driver’s seat in his saloon car.

The MCA was later rushed to Guru Nanak Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police want to establish if the victim had received any threat to his life. This is because the gunman did not steal anything from him.

Some of his colleagues later visited him in hospital and announced that he was in a stable condition.

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, three suspected thugs were Tuesday night shot dead in two separate robbery attempts in Nairobi.

The first shooting happened in Dandora area where a gang of four had earlier raided an electronic shop and stole valuables.

Police say they were alerted of the raid before they responded there and managed to kill two while the rest escaped.

Police say they recovered part of the stolen electronics. Another suspect was shot dead in Globe Cinema area in a botched robbery and a knife found on him. police say his accomplices managed to escape and that they had been attacking and robbing motorists.

Such cases of attacks on motorists have been on the rise especially during rush hours.
