Bungoma County Woman Representative Reginalda Wanyonyi is rooting for a national referendum to decide the fate of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Speaking during the laying of the foundation stone at St Mary's Ng'oli Secondary School on Saturday, Dr Wanyonyi said CDF should not be scrapped but instead aligned to the constitution as the judges said.

"CDF has played a good role in infrastructural development especially roads, schools and health facilities as well as supported a number of students to finish school through bursary funds.

Let it not be abolished because it has created employment for many people," said Wanyonyi.

The kitty was been abolished by the High Court citing lack of structure during its formation and the fact that it is not in the Constitution.

Be considerate

"Many people will suffer and projects will stall if it is abolished. Let the Government be considerate by aligning CDF to the Constitution so that it can help our people.

Abolishing it means sending some people home while important projects will stall due to lack of funds," she said.
