Lusaka commits to pay school fee for needy girl

Bungoma, Kenya: Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has paid first term school fees for girl who was stranded even after  passing her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE)exam last year.

Faith Nangila, a former pupil of Lena Academy in the border market of Lwakhakha will now comfortably join Lugulu Girls after Mr Lusaka paid the Sh63,000 the school required on admission.

Nangila, 13, who scored 398 marks out of 500, was the second best at the school  after Sydney Mwembe who scored 402 marks and was selected to join Kamusinga Boys.

“After I read in the papers and heard this case over the radio, I was touched and I called the girl’s mother so that I can help them. This is a deserving case and we should not let poverty derail her future success,” said Lusaka.

The governor gave a commitment to pay the girl’s fees for the four years of her secondary education and advised her to work hard to realise her dream career.

FOUR CHILDREN

Nangila, who aspires to become a lawyer, says she had struggled to get sponsorship from Equity’s Wings to Fly and KCB, but her efforts had not yielded any fruits.

“I am very grateful that at last God has heard my prayer. Let the girl join her dream school so that she can pursue her dream career,” said her bare-footed mother who has three other children.

Nangila’s father is alleged to have fled to Uganda for fear of the family responsibility and has not returned home since 2012.

The mother, a casual labourer and who lives with her children in a rental house within Lwakhakha market, said she was overwhelmed by other family obligations.
