Njuri Ncheke elders warn leaders over efforts to turn region against Jubilee

Meru, Kenya: Political leaders in Meru County who want to turn the region against the Jubilee Government will never succeed, the Njuri Ncheke Supreme Council of Ameru Elders has said.

The elders said they were against pronouncements by a section of leaders that the ruling alliance had sidelined the community and shortchanged it in terms of development projects.

Speaking at the powerful council’s meeting at a Meru hotel yesterday, the elders said the greater Meru region (Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties) was firmly behind Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government, and any efforts to pull the region out will be resisted by the elders.

DIVISIVE TALK

"Some people have been making utterances meant to divide the Ameru and turn them against the Jubilee Government. They are are liars," said Phares Rutere, the secretary general and National Council of Elders chairman.

The elders said the Ameru in Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties must remain united and ongoing attempts to incite them against the Government will be vigorously resisted.

‘The Jubilee Government has given us top jobs and we will get more. Chest-thumping and name-calling by some leaders have no place in Meru," said Mr Rutere.

Council chairman Paul Ethinkia said they had taken note of leaders who were against Jubilee.

"We will not follow leaders who want to turn the Ameru against Uhuru Kenyatta. They should concentrate on development projects, not fighting the Jubilee Government," said Ethinkia.
