Mombasa Church leaders welcome new security laws

Mombasa, Kenya: A section of Church leaders in Mombasa has welcomed the newly passed Security Laws (amendment) Act , 2014 and the endorsement of the new Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery saying they were likely to improve the security situation in the country.

On Sunday evening, Presiding Bishop of the Ushindi Baptist Church Joseph Maisha, led leaders and faithful in supporting the new measures saying the country was undergoing a trying moment that needed immediate measures.

Speaking at the church headquarters in Likoni, Mombasa county, where he ordained 15 pastors, Bishop Maisha said the Government should not take the country for granted and should instead take all measures to ensure the security of all Kenyans particularly this festive season.

"We urge strict measures to secure the country from all manner of threats that have instilled fear among Kenyans. We are happy that there are new laws and a new Cabinet Secretary for Interior has been endorsement by Parliament. The Government should not take the country for granted when it comes to security," Maisha said.

He was flanked by chairman of the Ushindi church ordination council Bishop Mwangangi Nguki and general secretary Reverend John Onyenyi.
