Sh2m CDF street lights project to end surging crime in Saboti Constituency

The Saboti Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has set aside Sh2 million for the installation of streetlights in Mitume area, a suburb in Kitale town, area MP David Wafula has said.

Speaking to The Standard yesterday, Wafula exuded confidence the lighting project will curb an upsurge of crime in the densely populated area in the Trans-Nzoia County headquarters.

He noted that lack of street lights had turned the area into a breeding ground for criminals.

"We don't have a single street light in this area, which has made business people feel insecure as they are prone to attacks by criminals, who melt into darkness after committing their acts.

"We want our people to move to a 24-hour economy and change their economic fortunes. With the installation of street lights, security should no longer be a major concern to traders," Wafula said. He said his office will increase CDF bursary allocation for the benefit of students.
