Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo given notice over shooting

Lagdera, Kenya: Residents of Lagdera have given Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo five days to take legal and disciplinary action against a senior police officer who shot and critically wounded a Form Four student last Friday.

The residents threatened to storm Modogashe Police Station in protest if action was not taken against the officer.

Lagdera MP Mohamed Shidiye warned that he would lead residents to the police station where the officer was moved after the incident.

"We understand the officer still has a firearm and moves around freely. We wonder what he might do next," said Mr Shidiye.

The Form Four student from Banane Secondary School was allegedly shot several times by the officer, who was said to be drunk at the time.
