Official warns against child sexual abuse

Kwale County Commissioner Evans Achoki has revealed that many parents in the area conceal cases of early marriage and child sexual exploitation.

Achoki claimed most parents opt for out-of-court-settlements when their children have been abused, and warned that those found abetting the offence would be prosecuted.

Addressing stakeholders at Kaskazi Hotel in Kwale on Monday during the launch of a project named Ending Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children, Achoki, who was accompanied by Msambweni OCPD Joseph Omijah, said parents and the society in general have a duty to protect children.

"Those caught abusing children must be prosecuted. We must rise above poverty and cultural practices to protect our children," he said.
