Roysambu, Kenya: Worshippers at Jesus Winner Church in Roysambu were treated to a rare Easter Sunday service led by officers from the disciplined forces.

The service attracted a large curious crowd and the disciplined forces did not disappoint.

They led the congregation in dancing and preached to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Nairobi County Police Chief Benson Kibue, who attended the service, assured the public that police officers were playing by the rules in the ongoing crackdown on criminals and assured that no community or religion was being targeted.

Improved security

He also said incidents of insecurity had drastically reduced.

“This is a sign that our officers are doing their job to ensure every resident of this town county is safe,” he said, while calling on the public to report any form of crime.

The Rev Edward Mwai, while appreciating the work done by the police, also noted the importance of drawing in officers to the church to spread the gospel.

The service was led by officers from the Army, National Police Service, Air Force, Prisons, National Youth Service and Kenya Wildlife Service.

Kibue was accompanied by Kasarani OCPD Augustine Nthumbi and Kangundo OCPD Wilson Wako among other high ranking officers.

At the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, security was tight as the parishioners filled the church for Easter service.

Archbishop Eliud Wabukala led the worshippers in the celebrations.

He called on the congregation to embrace peace and unity as taught in the scriptures if the country is to experience peace.

End conflict

He also called for an end to inter-religious conflict and called for a peaceful co-existence between all Kenyans.

“As our Savior lived so should we.  He was the prince of peace hence peace should form part of our core values. Let’s shun hate and embrace one another irrespective of their affiliations since we are all Kenyans and also since that’s what our Lord Jesus Christ had commanded,” said Wabukala.

At the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi, there were long security inspection queues at the entrance.

Hundreds of people thronged the Cathedral to celebrate Easter Sunday by giving thanks to the Lord for dying to cleanse their sins.

And retired President Mwai Kibaki joined other faithful in a mass at the Consolata Shrine in Westlands.

Consolata Shrine Parish Priest Fr. Daniel Bertea, told the faithful to seek truth and live in dignity following the life of Christ.
