Kisumu, Kenya: A woman was allegedly raped by boda boda operators in Kisumu after getting stranded at the main bus terminus.

The 20-year-old woman is reported to have arrived from Mombasa on Tuesday night and decided to wait till morning before proceeding home.

A statement recorded by the victim at Kisumu Central Police Station indicated that she was stranded at the terminus after exhausting her money during the journey from Mombasa and was waiting for the dawn to withdraw some money from the mobile money transfer agents.

It was at this point that a bodaboda operator approached her to inquire if he could be a client but she explained her situation.

The man then told her that he could ferry her to a place in town where the agents operate on a 24 hour basis and she could be helped.

The woman gave in and the bodaboda operator drove her to a thicket where six other men were waiting.

The seven then raped her repeatedly before dumping her.

The statement further indicated that a security guard who was reporting for work found the stranded woman and took her to his work station before she was escorted to the police station to record the statement.

Police then rushed her to Kisumu East District Hospital for treatment as investigations were launched into the incident.

Area deputy OCPD Joe Lekuta confirmed the incident saying police had moved with speed to commence investigations.

“The lady is still undergoing treatment. After the medication, she will give us finer details to be used in the investigations,” said Lekuta.

He said no arrests have been made as the victim could not identify the suspects.

“They were unknown to her but we are sure we will catch up with them once we get the finer details,” added Lekuta.
