Manchester United raid Spurs academy

Manchester United’s academy overhaul continues after snapping up highly-rated Tottenham youth coach Kieran McKenna.

McKenna, 30, was initially a player at White Hart Lane after arriving from Enniskillen Town in 2002.

But he failed to make a single first-team appearance and had to quit playing due to a hip injury in March 2009.

McKenna went on to coach Tottenham’s academy sides.

As Under 18s boss he helped guide Spurs to the FA Youth Cup semi-final a year ago before losing to Chelsea.

And now United have brought McKenna in to replace Paul McGuinness who left the club last February.

The Northern Irishman will begin work at United’s Carrington training complex on Monday.
