Aberdeen coach Derek McInnes has said he is not in a rush to sign former Gor Mahia midfielder Khalid Aucho.

Aucho was featured in a friendly match against Arbroath which Aberdeen won 4-1 at the weekend, giving McInnes an opportunity to see him in action.

The Dons could still make a wildcard signing in time for that player to feature in Thursday's Europe League qualifier against Maribor.

But the Aberdeen manager confirmed it's unlikely to be Aucho. McInnes told the Evening Express "Khalid has looked fine so far but we will take our time before making any decision about him. Khalid only arrived in Aberdeen late on Friday, so only managed one training session, with the Under-20 squad, before the match down at Arbroath.

"It's why he was only given part of the game, it was a case of bedding himself in.

"We are trying to arrange a closed doors game to give Khalid another run out in the early part of this week.

"He will also train with the rest of the first team squad, there is no rush.

"We had been trying for about six weeks to get Khalid over to have a look at him.

"He also made a lot of effort to get here, which really pleased me.

"It's only right that we give him the proper opportunity to show what he can do, although I must add we do have other options as well."

Elsewhere, Muhoroni Youth will appeal against a red card awarded to their top goal scorer Wycliffe Ochomo during Sundays match against Bandari.

Bandari won the match 2-1 but Muhoroni Youth believe referees are unfairly targeting Ochomo who has now picked two red cards since the season started.

Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala said the red card awarded to Ochomo was unwarranted given the circumstances.

"It is totally unfair to our club. This time, Ochomo was sent off for allegedly pushing away the Bandari team doctor. The truth is that he never did anything of the sort. He simply picked the medical bag and put it outside the pitch because clearly our opponents were wasting time.

"We were therefore shocked to see him sent off and are convinced he is being targeted with the aim of stalling us. We will appeal against the card because it was unfairly awarded," said Adagala.

Ochomo is currently the league's top scorer in the KPL with 12 goals. He is followed by Ulinzi's John Makwata who netted a hat-trick to send his tally to 11 goals.
