Following KCB’s victory in Enterprise Cup, coach Curtis Olago has challenged his charges to deliver the same form in Saturday’s final against Kabras Sugar.
KCB Lions won 22-0 against Strathmore at Impala Club at the weekend. The bankers found the breakthrough in the second half through Griffin Musila’s try, which was successfully converted by Kenny Andola for a 7-0 lead. Andola then made it 10-0 through a penalty.
Peter Kilonzo then scored an unconverted try for the bankers, before Martin Mukolwe grounded a converted try to set up a final date with Kabras in a repeat of last year’s Kenya Cup final.
Kabras, the reigning Kenya Cup champions, sailed through after beating Impala 24 – 5 for the second time in less than two months.
KCB’s display left coach Olago a delighted man and is now looking forward to retaining the Cup in their third final appearance at the RFUEA grounds on Saturday.
“We made a few mistakes in the first half, but rectified them after the breather. The boys played their hearts out and we really deserved to win,” said Olago.
“We are now one step from retaining the cup, but we will cross the bridge when we reach there. We beat Kabras in Kenya Cup final last year, so expect it to be a cracker this time round.”
For Strathmore’s coach Mitch Ocholla, he said the bankers deserved the win. “It is a big loss for us, but good stuff from KCB. I think they deserved to win. We played very well, but luck was not on our side and at the end of the day, a winner has to come out,” said Ocholla.
Meanwhile, Kenya Lionesses head coach Mike Shamiah praised his team’s show despite losing 40-0 to a South Africa select side.
