Finally: Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy heads to Arsenal

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy's move to Arsenal appears to be drawing closer after it was claimed Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri is resigned to losing the striker.

Arsenal are hopeful of completing the deal before the end of the weekend, with a medical set to take place on Sunday.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the transfer is worth as much as €38million (£29.8million).

The Italian response was positive to the claim, when he said, "Yes, it's all true."

Vardy, 29, wants a four-year deal worth around £120,000-a-week which is double his current wage at Leicester.

It is understood Arsene Wenger has given the go-ahead and the Gunners are looking to move quickly to stop any other clubs coming in.

From rags-to-riches

England boss Roy Hodgson has made it clear that he does not want medicals or negotiations being done while on Euros duty and Arsenal believe they can get it done before the Three Lions jet off to France at the start of next week.

A move to Arsenal, the third most successful club in English football history, would complete Vardy's rags-to-riches story.

Vardy was playing for Fleetwood Town just four years ago before signing for Leicester for £1million.

His 24 Premier League goals this season were instrumental in the Foxes' unlikely Premier League title win.
