Where next for Daniel Sturridge? 5 possible destinations if the striker leaves Liverpool

Sturridge in action for Liverpool

Tottenham

Spurs need a striker. It's one of the worst-kept secrets in football.

Since cutting Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor loose, Mauricio Pochettino has been soldiering on with just one out-and-out forward. Harry Kane is brilliant, obviously, but if he gets injured, Spurs would be forced to use one of their attacking midfielders out of position. It's a precarious situation.

They've looked at Saido Berahino and could go back in for him in the summer. But Sturridge would be another interesting option for a manager who appears to love working with young English players.

The only issue for Sturridge would be that he would be firmly a back-up option as long as Kane remains at the club.

Newcastle

The Magpies have showed in recent times that they are not afraid to get the chequebook out to secure talent. Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend came in for a combined £24million in January to boost the English contingent at the club, and they would have been joined by Saido Berahino were it not for Jeremy Peace's intransigence.

If the Magpies were willing to stump up over £20million for the West Ham striker, the news that Sturridge wants out of Liverpool will surely be of interest. They may have brought in Seydou Doumbia, but that looks like a short-term measure until the summer.

The pace of Sturridge would be a good fit in a side that loves to counter-attack, while he would surely be guaranteed starts when fit. But he'd have to get used to slightly less rarefied climes as far as the Premier League table is concerned.

West Ham

Like Spurs, West Ham could probably do with a striker. Not because they don't have enough on the books, but because none of them can seem to stay fit. Sturridge would perhaps be an unusual solution to that problem, but there have been whispers that the Irons could be in the hunt for his signature in the summer.

Tactically, it looks a good fit. Slaven Bilic asks his forwards to pull wide on occasion – something Sturridge often does anyway – and Dimitri Payet would surely enjoying playing alongside someone as deadly as the Liverpool man.

Would Sturridge relish a chance to play at the Olympic Stadium, four years after representing Great Britain during London 2012?

Arsenal

With Theo Walcott struggling for form and Olivier Giroud still struggling to convince the doubters, Arsenal could well be in the market for a strike next season.

On paper at least, Sturridge looks like the perfect player for Arsene Wenger. He would offer something different to Giroud at the business end of the field and would, at a push, be able to fill the Joel Campbell role on the right.

Sturridge is certainly neat enough on the ball to fit into Arsenal's system and would probably enjoy the service that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could offer him. But perhaps the Gunners already have more than their fair share of injury-prone players as it is.

Paris Saint-Germain

If Sturridge wants a real change of scenery, he could abandon the Premier League altogether and head for the continent. There would surely be no shortage of foreign suitors.

An interesting option could be French champions PSG, who will likely need firepower in the near future. Edinson Cavani's days at the Parc des Princes look numbered, while Ezequiel Lavezzi is certain to be on the way come the summer. Then there is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who could go to MLS or back to hometown club Malmo.

Les Parisiens don't lack for money and are likely to spend big on a world-class forward to lead them into a new era. Sturridge probably isn't that man, but could be a useful addition to boost their attacking ranks.

And for the fashion-conscious 26-year-old, a spell in the French capital would presumably be fairly appealing.
