Blow to Manchester United as PSG plot Cristiano Ronaldo transfer with astonishing wages

Mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain are ready to break the bank to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

The French giants are willing to pay Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo - preparing to play Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday - a deal worth a staggering £250,000-a-week after tax.

That would be the equivalent of £500k-a-week by Premier League standards, with tax to consider, and almost certainly blows Manchester United out of the water.

It comes after Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes said it would be “impossible” for the 30-year-old to leave Madrid.

But that will not deter PSG. They regard Ronaldo as the perfect successor to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is set to leave next summer when his contract expires.

Ibrahimovic, 34, earns around £220,000-a-week after tax and PSG are ready to go even higher to get Ronaldo.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is determined to help the French giants recruit superstar names and they regard Ronaldo as the biggest of all.

Despite United still dreaming of Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford, the chances seem slim even after Louis Van Gaal admitted last week they could be interested.

PSG believe they have a much stronger chance and Ronaldo - who turns 31 in February - could see it as one last big pay-day and an exciting new chapter in a career that's already seen him play for clubs in Portugal, England and Spain.

Meanwhile, Luka Modric has challenged Real to restore their team ethic and tie up Pool A when they face Shakhtar.

Former Tottenham midfielder Modric admitted the Spanish giants abandoned their hard-grafting principles in the weekend's damaging 4-0 Clasico defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona.
