Wainaina stars as Standard County Golf Classic ends at Limuru Club

Joe Wainaina carded an impressive 40 stableford points to emerge the overall winner during the Standard County Classic Golf tournament at Limuru Golf Club at the weekend.

'Sir Joe', as he is fondly referred to in golfing circles, carded 21 points in the inward nine and a further 19 points on the outward to clinch the overall title.

"My hard work and patience have today paid off and I'm glad I won," said on Saturday. 

Noni Muhire, playing off handicap 14, carded 36 (19+17) to don the Ladies Medal, beating Lady runner-up handicap 21 Ann Wanjama on count back during the day-long event that attracted over 200 golfers from Nakuru, Nandi Bears, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nyeri, Great Rift Country and home golfers.

Handicap 14 Bryan Njoroge was the men's winner after carding 40 (20+20) points. Handicap nine Muzamil Sumar was the men's runner-up on 39 (19+20) points. Francis Kimani won the gross prize with a score of 32 points.

Kamau Muigai won the junior prize with 29 (13+16) points while Father James Mukui and Jennifer Ngure won the men and ladies' Nearest to the Pin prizes respectively. Liz King'ori won the ladies longest drive prize as Renaldo D'souza emerged the men's longest drive winner.

First and second nine winners were Alex Gichuki and Joel Gachanja on 21 points each.

 Standard's North Rift Business Manager Joseph Yego won the staff prize, beating Special Features Editor Machua Koinange, Fred Kirui and Sammy Mose by two points. Guest winner was Paul Njoki who carded 39 (19+20) points.
