Gor Mahia stretched their unbeaten run in Kenyan Premier League games to 12 after humiliating a depleted Nakuru All Stars 5-0, at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

Gor would have ended the first half with a convincing score-line, but All Stars were successful in frustrating them over 40 minutes with the trio of Ali Abondo, Michael Olunga and Meddie Kagere squandering a host of scoring chances.

However, the league leaders’ breakthrough eventually came on the stroke of halftime with Kagere beating All Stars goalkeeper Shayne Indumuli with a cheeky header.

The defending champions ran riot in the second half with the Kagere-led attack tearing All Stars backline apart to score three goals in a span of five minutes.

And after several attempts, Olunga finally found the back of the net in 69th minute, rising high above his markers to head home a cross from the left. Two minutes later, the lanky striker was brought down in the area with joint top scorer Abondo calmly slotting the resulting penalty kick in the net. In the 74th minute, Kagere rounded off AllStars custodian before burying the ball into an empty net. Defender Harun Shakava put the game beyond their visitors scoring the fifth goal with a free-header.

Meanwhile, Burundian international Fiston Razak hit a brace to propel Sofapaka to a 2-1 victory over Sony Sugar at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, as Paul Kiongera came off the bench to snatch a 1-0 win for KCB over Tusker, at City Stadium.

SCORED CRUCIAL GOAL

Kevin Amwayi was also a hero for Ulinzi Stars, scoring the crucial goal just a few minutes after being introduced, helping the soldiers to beat their hosts Thika United 2-1.

Earlier, on form Eric Johana struck a stunning brace to help Mathare United beat visiting Western Stima 2-1.

“I am pleased with Johana’s performance in the last two games. He is an amazing talent, but he needs to work extra hard. I was planning to substitute him as his work rate had reduced, but the trust I have in him made me change my mind. I am happy he won the game for us,” said Mathare coach Stanley Okumbi.

The hosts took the lead in the ninth minute, when Johana beat Stima goalkeeper Gabriel Andika with a perfectly executed free kick. He broke the deadlock barely two minutes after his custodian Peter Odhiambo had thwarted Daniel Kamau’s effort.

Mathare could have doubled the lead in the 13th minute, but Daniel Mwaura’s goal was ruled offside before Ronald Okoth levelled the scores on the half hour mark from Dennis Sikhai’s throw-in.

A second goal for Stima looked imminent as gaps started appearing in the slum boys’ backline, but their goalkeeper kept Stima strikers at bay.

Stima coach Henry Omino said: “I am very disappointed. The result is not a true reflection of the match. We played well but failed to make good use of our chances. We must improve on our finishing touch.”

With 10 minutes remaining, Johana snatched a late winner for Mathare, beating Andika with a powerful low shot from the right to take his goal tally to three.
