Nairobi City Stars and Ushuru drew 1-1 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Nyayo Stadium yesterday afternoon. The Kawangware boys, who are fighting relegation, got off to a bright start with Bruno Sserunkuma working hard to break down the opponents’ back-line.

He, however, failed to tap home a wonderful cross from Levy Muaka after 15 minutes. Muaka, also failed to score in the 20th minute when he seemed to have stood in the way of a goal bound shot.

The early misses by City Stars energised Ushuru, who went up with the first chance of the match. Allan Kateregga picked out Hassan Mohammed in the 23rd minute and the latter stabbed home with his first touch of the ball.

City Stars fought hard for a come-back, but were thwarted by Rodgers Ochieng in goal. Ochieng was very aggressive and at times fouled his opponents, something that earned City Stars constant free kicks.

Ushuru should have extended their lead in the 38th minute had Obadiah Ndege been on target.

But it was City Stars, who will regret for not scoring in the 40th minute when Levi Muaka failed to find his target from the penalty spot.

The taxmen were stronger in the second half and missed couple of chances at the start. The wastage turned costly on the hour mark as Kanamuli Kapilima failed to control a Rogers Ochieng’s back pass and was dispossessed by  Sserunkuma, who curled the ball home from close range to level the scores.

Joseph Mulume should have restored his team’s lead three minutes later after being picked out well by Okwemba, but after a great first touch to wrong foot the entire City Stars defence, he hit the ball high and Ushuru had a penalty appeal rejected on the 74th minute after John Amboko appeared to have handled in the box.

In Kisumu, Bandari and Chemelil Sugar drew 1-1, continuing a bad spell of results for the sugar millers.
