Thierry Henry: Arsenal can't win the league with Olivier Giroud

Thierry Henry says that Arsenal need to buy a new spine for their team - and that they won't win a league title with Olivier Giroud up front.

The Highbury legend hit out at the current crop of Arsenal stars after they failed to break down a resilient Chelsea side on Sunday evening, ensuring that Blues kept their lead at the top of the table to 10 points.

But Henry believes that the problems at the Emirates lie deeper than just one or two players, he believes that they need to sign four top quality players in order to challenge for a league title.

The Frenchman has urged his former club to put their hands in their pocket and secure some top players to help them push for a long overdue title.

Speaking as a Sky Sports pundit, he said: "I think they need to buy four players - they need that spine. They need a goalkeeper, they still need a centre back, they still need a holding midfielder and, I'm afraid, they need a top, top quality striker to win this league again.

"You had the best example with Chelsea here today. They were struggling last season to win the league. They went on to buy [Thibaut] Cortouis, [Nemanja] Matic, Cesc [Fabregas] and [Diego] Costa.

"For me, that speaks volumes and you saw it today - a team didn't and a team did, and they are about to win the league again.

"He [Arsene Wenger] has to do it. You need to have this competitive thing within the group - to win the league, that has to happen."

Henry's countryman Giroud was also at the centre of a host of criticism, after he failed to find the net.

Despite scoring 14 goals in the Premier League this season and being in hot form over the last couple of months, Henry does not believe that he is the man to lead the Gunners to a first league title since 2004.

He said: "I think Giroud is doing extremely well. But can you win the league with him? I wouldn't think so.

"He does a job, and he does it ever so well, but you can't win the league.

"Arsenal were at the top of the league last season, but everyone was saying they are not going win the league."
