Kabras RFC rise to claim semis spot as Strathmore suffer worst defeat this season after 61-24 loss to Kabras

Kabras RFC defied all odds to make it to the Kenya Cup semi-finals in their first season in the top flight.
The Western Kenya-based club hammered Strathmore RFC 61-24 to secure fourth place in the league and a place in the play-offs. This is Strathmore’s heaviest defeat this season and it will be a morale booster for Kabras, who are hoping to drop more jaws by winning the Kenya Cup.
Strathmore have had a torrid time this year, where they have lost heavily to Kenya Commercial Bank, Nakuru RFC and Kabras, all the semi-finalists, in a span of four weeks.
Strathmore will have to dig deep if they are to continue with their title campaign beyond the semi-finals.
Kabras’ victory meant they don't need to worry about what happens in the game between Mwamba and Impala, who were breathing down their necks in the race for a top four finish. Impala will finish the league in sixth position after losing to Nondies 25-24 in a hard fought Friday night fixture. Impala had to fight gallantly in the second half to scoop bonus points, after they conceded three tries in the first half.
Mwamba, on the other hand, will be the most heart-broken as despite beating Mean Machine at the Impala grounds yesterday afternoon, the result keeps them in fifth position and out of contention for the Kenya Cup.

Meanwhile in the dead rubber of the weekend, Homeboyz RFC beat Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 36-3 in the early kick off yesterday at the Impala grounds.

Overall defending champions Nakuru RFC have finished the league phase as the only unbeaten side after they beat Kenya Commercial Bank 23-20 at the Nakuru Athletics Club to dethrone the Bankers from pole position.

Nakuru will hence get a home semi-final where they will play against fourth-placed Kabras, while second-placed KCB will play third-placed Strathmore. Despite the heavy loss to Kabras and going level at 46 points, Strathmore finished third, owing to a much better aggregate in points.
